Artist Statement
This body of work is a representation of my ever-changing inspirations and the use of differing media and techniques to express the themes behind them. I find infinite beauty in the nature that exists all around us. I like to observe these natural elements and bring them to life through my work. I am drawn to strange insects, exotic animals and plant life, but recently I've become more interested in working with human emotion and how it relates to the environment. I am currently in the process of discovery with my practice; finding new ways to bring changing ideas to the tangible universe. Whether it's a new plant, insect, animal, or human element, I feel compelled to explore my feelings surrounding them more closely. I have dabbled in everything from charcoal drawing and acrylic paint, to 3 dimensional work and printmaking.
Artist Bio
KayCee Wise was born in a small Texas town in 1991. Growing up, she would spend much of her time in nature, exploring patches of wilderness near her home. Her childhood is full of memories of camping trips to the Gulf of Mexico and the Frio River with her family. Her love of art began at an early age. When the sweltering Texas heat was too much to bear, she would spend whole afternoons drawing at home. She moved to Fremont Nebraska at the age of 11 with her parents and older sister. Being the daughter of two creative parents, her artistic pursuits were always encouraged at home. In school, however she was often reprimanded for drawing during class time. Throughout her public school life, she would struggle in all areas aside from her art courses. It was during her high school years that she realized her creative potential and decided to pursue art as a career path. In 2013, she enrolled in the Arts program at MCC and graduated with honors with her Associate of Arts in May of 2016. During her time at MCC, she was the Commonwealth Gallery Art Club President and the first place winner of the 2016 MCC Annual Student Art Show.
